Summer Upgrades
Curious pilot whale came right up to check us out!

We’ve done a lot this summer to upgrade the boat and wanted to share it with all of you! The first thing we did was get the boat from Turtle Cove Marina, our regular home on the north shore of Provo, to the Caicos Marina and Shipyard on the south side of the island. We decided to take our time and fish the way round from Turtle Cove past Northwest Point all the way to Sandborne Channel between Provo and West Caicos. The trip was an eventful one! We saw

dolphins about an hour into trolling and hooked up a blue marlin off Northwest Point, losing it shortly after. Not too long after that we were visited by two curious pilot whales who came right up to the boat to check us out! We had a few barracuda bites and mackerel before we pulled lines in and steamed around to the South Side. At the Shipyard we had the boat hauled out and set up in the boatyard so she could get new bottom paint, a buff and polish and some fiberglass work done on the transom. We also had the cutlass bearings replaced and the props checked and balanced. All the zincs were replaced and she was lookin good! A small issue with the turbo clamp on the port engine kept us from heading back round to Turtle Cove the day we ‘splashed’ so we decided to do some more cosmetic upgrades! We repainted the gold stripes and buffed and polished the upper part of the hull to get her shining again.

Getting the bottom pressure washed before she was put on the blocks at the Shipyard.

Once the turbo was repaired we were off back to Turtle Cove! On the way we saw what all the hard work was for – we gained 2 knots at running speed and she was riding sweet! Once back in ‘the pond’ we decided it was time to upgrade the cockpit. Captain Bill and the rest of the team spent an entire week sanding, painting and varnishing to get the cockpit looking brand new again. The non skid was redone as well as the wood trim sanded, stained and varnished. We even repainted the fighting chair! She’s looking good and ready to work hard and get dirty again as we haul fish in all season!
